Sand Volleyball @ The Beach!
LONG BEACH STATE, March 13, — after decades of prominence on the beaches of Southern California and the world, today “Sand” Volleyball came to the NCAA and to Long Beach State. The 49ers add their 19th varsity sport with today’s first ever Sand Volleyball match vs The Lions of Loyola Marymount University.
While “Beach” Volleyball has been a global phenomenon for decades, perhaps at times eclipsing the indoor game, it must have special resonance for this university whose own indoor player of the year Misty May Treanor has won Beach Volleyball gold medals in each of the previous two Olympic Games.
Art110 TA’s Liz Juarez, Vanessa Canales & Erik Morales were on the scene to support the team. They brought poster supplies to make a sign for last semester’s Art110/Volleyball star Bre Mackie. It turned out Mackie was not competing today, but undaunted, the TA Swag Patrol created a poster in support of her scorekeeping. Last year’s Art110/Volleyball star Delainey Aigner-Swesey did compete and won her match 21-12, 21-16. The 49ers won all 5 matches today, advancing the undefeated university’s all-time record to 1-0.
